A German made reel mower, the Brill Razorcut is one of the lightest reel mowers in the market. The company Brill has focused on producing a quality light weight mower, but there have been some discontinuities which have dragged down its ratings. There are also some design flaws which further dampen the upsides of this mower. Let us see what the Brill Razorcut 38 reel push mower has to offer;
The Brill Razorcut is a lightweight with a total of 18 lbs. The lightest reel mower we have encountered so far. It has a cutting deck of 15 inches, and the cutting height is variable between 0.7 inches and 1.8 inches. As for the reel, the blades have been fire hardened and are made of steel. The huge wheels have ball bearings for a smooth ride when cutting. One design flaw witnessed is the overuse of plastic parts which are not very durable. Indirectly, this contributes to the lack of durability for the lawnmower.
- Sharp blades
The Brill Razorcut has five blades which stay sharp for up to 8 years. This is a long time considering most reel mowers need their blades to be sharpened every three years. Only the Fiskars Staysharp challenges this quality. It also goes to show how much time they took to produce high-quality blades.
- Rear spoiler
Most reel mowers discharge clippings behind the mower which is often thrown at the user as he/ she pushes it from behind. The spoiler on the Razorcut saves you from the clippings and keeps you clean as you carry on with your mowing.
- Flower guard installed
Instead of cutting everything in its path, this mower offers you more control over your environment. The flower guard prevents the mower from cutting down flowers and other decorative plants.
- Powder coated
The metal parts of the lawnmower have been coated with powder to prevent rusting. Protection from the elements means the metal frame and handle is durable and can last you longer with regular use.
This lawnmower has an exceptionally small cutting height. Cutting grass at very low height is not healthy for the grass. It exposes the roots, and the grass dries up much faster. Also, the low cutting height disqualifies it for versatile use. The lawnmower also has difficulty cutting thick grasses. The main drawback is its light weight which is not enough for cutting tough grass. If you want to cut thick varieties like the Zoysia and Bermuda, then the heavier Fiskars Staysharp can be a good fit.
The Brill Razorcut is an efficient reel mower which cuts grass pretty decently. Its major drawbacks are its low cutting height and its inability to cut long or thick grass. It is best recommended for use on a small lawn as attributed to its small cutting width of 15 inches. With such a cutting width, traversing a large lawn can be tiresome and time-consuming. The assembly of this German made reel mower is fairly simple. You only need to attach the handle to the reel, and that’s it.
